Lonely Planet

This play was particularly important to me as a queer theatre maker as the play revolves around the 80s AIDS epidemic and how it affected the day to day lives of the LGBTQ+ community. I wanted to be sure not to make the lighting the main focus of the production and go for a more "natural" lighting approach. I had a lot of fun working on such a beautifully simplistic and honest piece of theatre. Lonely Planet has been one of my favorite scripts I have ever had the pleasure of working with.

As lighting designer and operator for Laboratory Theatre Company's production of Steven Dietz's Lonely Planet, I worked closely with director Liam Alexander to create a cohesive design that highlighted their directorial vision. My concept for this show mainly revolved around the idea that as time went on, the space would feel smaller and smaller, until finally the only thing lit was a singular black chair.
