The Last Days of Judas Iscariot

As Assistant Director, it was my job to polish scenes, act as script supervisor, act as a liaison between the cast and directing and stage management team as well as act as an advocate for minority cast members thought's and opinion's on the show's content and how it was being presented on stage. With a production that is as heavy as this one, I spent a lot of time working with cast members on how to channel emotions in a healthy way rather than trying to reach back into their past traumas.

For Missouri State University's production of Stephen Adly Guirgis' The Last Days of Judas Iscariot, I was invited to be the Assistant Director and work directly with Dr. Kurt Heinlein in order to bring this story to life. My responsibilities began with collaborating with Dr. Heinlein to create a director's vision for the show that would be presented to designers and cast members. An important motif we both decided on early in the process was that the entire show was to be in grey-scale to represent the "grey area" between good and bad. Another tough concept we had to tackle was a way to convey to the audience that this court room existed in the limbo between life and death, a place called Hope. We decided to utilize our large cast and when actors were not in a scene, they would appear walking just beyond the action with their heads covered with black hoods to represent the souls making there way to and from purgatory and salvation.
